Nearly 2 months after joining Crunch Gym, I finally used up one of my (5) 1/2 hour personal training sessions with David. Working out with a trainer isn't an entirely new thing for me. I worked out with Malvin, Cody, and a slew of others as they changed up from one gym to the next. Trainers seem to have a "grass is always greener" outlook. The next gym will pay them more or provide them with consistent clients or... and it was no different with David. As he was working with me, showing me moves that work the core, help my balance, strengthen and tone (all good things), he whispered to me, "I'm not going to be here much longer." And another one bites the dust.
It's like getting set up on a date after your friend tells you how great he is, only to find out that he's moving across the country next month. I appreciate it. Thanks for the introduction.
It's a shame really, because this guy was really hitting the mark. He was showing me new things; he was challenging without being militaristic, engaging without being fawning or creepy and he was believable. And--he wore shoes that looked like feet. So I got a full analysis of why these are "the" shoes, and to go to Transports on College Ave to check them out. He runs in them, walks in them, goes on BART in them. They're a little freaky looking, around $80 and David was a big proponent. They're by Vibram and yes, I am intrigued.
I have a full hour session with him next week (check two 1/2-hour sessions off) and maybe I'll be able to squeeze two more in before he departs.
He gave me some great exercises, which I'll definitely try, but I felt disappointed that I won't have the continuity with this trainer--sadly, just like the others.
