International Women's Day

According to the Web site, "each year around the world, International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Hundreds of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women." I attended one such event today held at the Charles Schwab Auditorium in San Francisco.

This was a multi-sponsored event by McKesson, Charles Schwab and other organizations which was centered around three inspirational speakers and a post-speaker networking event. Unfortunately we arrived late. No one said that being a woman achiever didn't mean you could duck out of work at 4 p.m. Duty called and we arrived as the question and answer session was ending. That didn't mean we weren't able to take advantage of the networking (and free food and beverages). I spoke with a woman from IBM - a second generation IBM'r in engineering. I was impressed as even today you don't find many women in that field.

It was unfortunate that we weren't able to get there on time. I do intend to do so, next time.
