Bay Trail

I'm liking this bike thing. I had hoped that the rain would stop this a.m., and it did! Luckily the weather looked a bit ominous, but not too much that it stopped us. John and I tossed the bikes on my new bike rack and headed down to emeryville. I was a tad bit nervous about the bikes on the rack and pulled off the freeway, only to find that the straps were way too loose! We luckily averted causing a major accident with our bikes flying off on the freeway. We strapped them on tightly and got back on the road.

We off-loaded the bikes and headed up Powell Street, turned left at the light and biked down the path. I LOVE paved bike paths. My legs aren't really up to snuff yet for hills and dales, but this flat stuff along the water ROCKED! We rode all the way to the Berkeley Pier, turned around, then stopped at the little road-side stand for a coffee/juice and headed back to E-ville.

About a 1/2 mile from our car, John heard a "POP!" and he thought he had a flat... nope - but a spoke popped and he was unable to wheel or ride his bike - that meant carrying it on his shoulder back to the car (UGH!). After a bit I rode ahead determined that I could mount the bike on the rack on my own and meet him back along the way... well, almost. I could get the bike on part way and thankfully it was enough to get me closer to him.

At that point John was able to get the bikes back on the rack and we headed home.

PHEW! So-- this is the beginning of a new weekend activity - next week: Alameda! Once John has his life back (after the show), who knows where we'll explore next!!!
