Services though are another thing. It's hard to deny access to services (though I'm sure that there are some who find ways), but Doctors Without Borders has a fine reputation and the media has done nothing but praise their efforts (contrary to the US Government's control of the airport at Port-au-Prince). So tonight, instead of being served, hopefully we are helping people who can serve.

Haiti Relief Effort
Normally, I would suggest to my fabulous husband that on his one day off (per week), that we go out for a nice dinner rather than stay home and cook. Tonight I decided to take the money that we might spend on dining out and donate to Doctors Without Borders. I had not yet made a donation to any Haitian relief efforts for the earthquake due primarily to the fact that I am suspect of how the goods and funds are allocated. In third world countries you often hear of war lords obtaining the food and water meant for the many, horded and used to extort money out of the poor and helpless. It's infuriating and yet there is little we can do sitting on the sidelines.

Life Changing: 2 (feel-good) Fun: 2 (disaster relief isn't really fun) Easy to implement: 1 (easy) Worthy of repetition: 5 (should this occur again - yes) Try This: 4 (sure)
Cost: 4 (equal to a nice dinner for two with a glass of wine)
