Little Theater

In the early afternoon I began researching what I could do that would be new. My initial thought was a comedy group I had read about. I went online to find that only the 11 p.m. show had tickets. Then I looked into Berkeley Rep to see if I might be able to get a single ticket to their new hot show, AurĂ©lia’s Oratorio- also sold out. The next option was Allan Holdsworth at Yoshi's in Oakland - -- sold out, next I checked on a preview for a play in SF staring Sharon Gless, but the least expensive seats were...sold out. Now I'm thinking, "Is everyone doing something different tonight?"

I stumbled upon a Web site, Goldstar, which offers discounted tickets, where I found a great deal on a play in Alameda at the Altarena Playhouse. There was just one ticket left (half off) for $11, so based on my earlier luck, I jumped on it.

It has been a long time since I've been to any type of little theater. I tend to have a vision of a slight step-up from a high school play. This evening's performance of William Inge's "Bus Stop" was really quite good. There's definitely something to be said for seeing a play in a little theater. You "feel" the play more and feel more connected to the characters. It was definitely an enjoyable evening.
