Last fall a group of friends found that it was too much effort to read books as a reason to gather, and so the "Not a Book Club" group formed. Most of the women are young mothers who need a scheduled day to get out of the house and reconnect without their kids. I felt fortunate to be included in the mom's group, even though my only maternal experience is from raising orange tabbys. Today was my day to pick and although I see a lot of movies, I saved the light ones for this club. Choices for today included, "It's Complicated", "Leap Year" and "Youth in Revolt" although the last was sure to be perceived as horror rather than comedy by this group of mommies. Although my personal preference was "It's Complicated" based on critic's reviews, "Leap Year" won out based on schedule (an important factor with feeding frenzies, dads left alone with the kids and sitter's availabilities).
We met at the UA in Emeryville (convenient to the SF, East Bay, and Marin moms). As far as movies go, this was a 2 or a 3 - very predictable, light, but completely unbelievable. Amy Adams plays her usual cute self and the love interest grows slightly more attractive with time, but the end of the movie just didn't play.
Afterward we grabbed a cup-o-joe at Peets and had adult conversation (good for stay-at-home moms). It was great for me to have my "girl-time", which I feel I've been lacking.
