Thwartation

Without going into the dreary details of my workday, suffice to say that today was a day of thwartation* (*not a real word). At every turn I was thwarted, starting with my early a.m. review of the day's plan. I found out that the reading I was excited to attend was not in fact today, but on Friday (thwart 1). Upon learning this I decided I would go to the formerly homeless shoe-shine guy to support him and learn a little about his experience, only to find that he had a court date at that time (thwart 2). I decided that since my day had been dreary (no details needed), I would go to Zubio chair massage, for a quickie, only to find out that Zubio (as its former self) had closed and was now being run by a single guy as Break Point who was booked when I walked in (thwart 3).

After a series of minor disappointments and little creativity to find something new to do, I stumbled upon an interesting little shop, Minamoto Kitchoan which is located almost next door to my office building at 648 Market Street San Francisco (415) 989-1635. The atmosphere made the desserts appear precious. Although clearly the intent was the sale of gift boxes, I was not intimidated to go in and ask them about their specialties and if I could buy just one. So I selected a little mochi with a black bean paste (delicious) and returned to my humble work abode with a sense of success.

  • Life Changing: 1 (hardly)
  • Fun: 3 (fun enough)
  • Easy to implement: 1 (easy)
  • Worthy of repetition: 5 (absolutely)
  • Try This: 5 (try this)
  • Cost: 2 (my mochi was $2.50 - not a wallet buster, but this was a little treat)
