Crawl before Walk

The first Thursday in SF is the Art Crawl. Galleries stay open late to allow for post-work cultural enjoyment. In the golden years during the dot com boom, before the great evil also know as the Bush era, galleries would offer wine and cheese. Perhaps their motto was, "the more you drink, the cheaper we seem" or something like that. However, today, on a budget that allowed for plastic cups and tap water, nary a wallet was opened in my little gang of four at 49 Geary.

I was actually inspired by three pieces - one was a painting of strange creatures with, "Fuck Yeah" and a little abstract piece mounted to the frame that indicated it was a daily mantra--kitchy, but funky.

The next piece was a "painting" made of globs of oil paint which gave the appearance of a shag rug. It had a strange textural element to it and I couldn't help but think, "how long did it take that damn thing to dry?" Inquiring minds want to know.

The third and final piece was near and dear to my heart - a slightly juvenile horse painted inside of a mixed media frame.

There was nothing I could live without, but I enjoyed the experience with my friends and it was a cool little "hang" post work that required no big commitment, and no money.
