I'm not a bar fly, but I do enjoy an adult beverage every now and again. I mean, what's not to like? Our neighborhood has gone through some changes in the last 10 years. A favorite neighborhood bar, The 5th Amendment, changed to "Easy" and no longer has live music, just DJs, and other places have come and gone. One that left, The Serenader, a ghetto (not quite) fabulous bar, recently closed and re-opened today as Heart 'n Dagger, a rock 'n roll bar.
The Serenader had been on Lakepark Drive forever. It was painted a putrid, hospital green and drew a sometimes unsavory crowd that was less than welcoming to the locals in the neighborhood. This bar was simply out of place, and I believe that the neighborhood finally put enough pressure on so that they retired.
The new owners did the right thing by painting the building so that it's no longer an eyesore, and blends right in next to the hipster-ish pizza joint, Lane Splitter. The change on that block is nearly complete. Once someone appropriate moves into the old Drive In, where the oxymoronic sign says it all, "Drive-In Parking Only", the street will have transformed from dicey to nicey.

Dale and I strolled down to witness the grand opening. I wasn't exactly dressed for it in my trench coat and Cole Haan walking shoes. As such, we weren't exactly greeted with open arms (could have also been that we had evil Starbucks in our hands), but I'll do a quick change after work next week and head on down in ripped jeans & T. I'll fit in a little better. Oh, and I'll buy a beer too. I know it's going to be a good place. How could it not be? They had "Spinal Tap" playing on the T.V. above the bar. What better movie to personify a rock 'n roll hang out?
