Going Vertical

At lunch today, my friend Holly and I hopped over to 130 Sutter Street (just around the corner), to the American Institute of Architects. I had read in the gardening section of The Chron about an exhibit of vertical gardens. I was intrigued.

Upon entering the office, we found it very subdued, with one worker-bee barely glancing up as we entered. We wandered the office looking at images of offices around the globe that were using plants to create insulation, living roofs, and roof-top gardens, making great use of areas previously considered dead-space.

Then we experienced live examples of vertical planting. I'm now thinking how cool it would be to create living room art with plants, or create vertical planting outside against John's future studio. The possibilities are endless!
