April Fools

Today is April first. For most people, today is simply Thursday. For some people, today is April Fools Day.

Back in the day, my father used to love to pull April Fools Day pranks. He might have a secretary who he would bellow at and say, "Here! Get me Mr. C Lyon on the phone--now!" The number would be to the Marine Mammal Center. He'd get a pretty good giggle out of that.

For a while, I tried taking after him employing some similar type of prank on a colleague, boyfriend, or family member. It worked on my brother until he got bigger than me (soon risk became greater than the reward ).

Today though, I discovered that not only is it Thursday, and April Fools Day, but it's also St. Stupid's Day. It was founded by Bishop Joey of the First Church of the Last Laugh and hence, the St. Stupid's Day Parade was founded. Today marked the 32rd (not a typo) annual parade, which started at Justin Herman Plaza and wended its way around the financial district (near the "Sock Exchange") ending at the "Banker's Heart" at the Pyramid.

My friend Holly and I wandered down to Justin Herman Plaza to see what the hubbub was about. One of the first things I saw--naked guy. Yep, buck
freaking naked, and painted, and cold (it was pretty chilly today). Here's the problem with naked guys: they are never the guys that you ever really want to see naked. They're normally older, flabbier, and often-- German. (Sorry, it's not racist if it's true!). So we wandered the plaza gawking at the people. I thought to myself, just what SF needs, another excuse to get dressed up in costumes and parade around The City, or walk / run naked. But then I thought to myself, well, it IS San Francisco.
