Gang War

After a full day of Jazz Fest where we escaped another thunderstorm and tornado, we headed to a New Orleans institution, Tipitinas to see a legend, Patti Smith. She played favorites from her iconic "Horses", including "We three", "she", and "because the night".
She was joined by special guest Michael Stipe (REM) who sang "Wichita Lineman". The show was great.

Afterwards, we headed over to Frenchmans, where we ended up in the middle of a gang war.

Two brass bands were battling it out in the middle of the street. People had congregated for a spontaneous street party. I was a little concerned in that the two trombones were really going at it, and I kept thinking that it's all fun and games until someone gets an eye poked out by the brass arm.

We kept marvelling that where else in the world would this happen? Where would you find talented street musicians congregating at midnight, shutting down a residential area for a street party where the cops just ignored it and allowed the peace and music loving revelers to hhsve a great time?

Answer: New Orleans, LA
