Dinner with Friends

Happily I left work (a tad early) to start the three day weekend (woo hoo!). I checked in with Robyn and lucky me, I was invited over for dinner. (thought bubble: call people more often, there may be more meals in it for me). The only issue was that I was still feeling a tad "tender" from Wednesday. Having been on the BRAT diet for two days, I wasn't sure what I was up for eating. The idea of food still felt a bit foreign as everything look like an assault on my gut. So I ventured cautiously, taking only a small amount of noodles and two shrimp (dare they be tainted) and hoped for the best. I passed on the salad (roughage might be rough) and tread lightly. It seemed to work and I enjoyed the evening with friends.

Sadly though, I found out that Lady had recently been expelled from the country. She lost her job and as a Canadian on a green card, had 10 days to find a new job. In this economy she wasn't so lucky. Apparently in California, it doesn't matter if you're a married lesbian home-owner. Your visa is good or it isn't and the US Federal Government doesn't give the same rights to gays/lesbians as they do to straight couples.

Thankfully Lady made it back into the country and is looking for work, back in the home she owns. One day, maybe this country will get serious about treating all people equally. Until then, those of us who believe in and have "equal rights" need to keep fighting for those who don't have them.
