Inspired

I'm busting out of my cocoon early. It was challenging to go out on a chilly, drizzly, week night, but I'm back from attending an event in support of Jean Quan's run for Mayor of Oakland. It was attended by around 30 people, including CA State Assemblyman Sandre Swanson. I was impressed by Jean. She is tuned into Oakland's needs and has a community organizing background, like one of my other favorite politicians.

Never one to shy away from an opportunity to get my questions answered, I asked her specifically what went wrong with the parking plan to increase revenue for Oakland. I believe that if we want good social services, we have to be willing to pay for it. It was a good idea with incredibly poor execution Jean was very frank and honest, saying that it wasn't implemented well, but that they are reviewing the issue. I also asked her if she would be a visible mayor, unlike our current ghost in office, Ron Dellums. She responded that it was important to have a relationship with the press.

I'm inspired again and am hopeful that we'll be able to elect a strong, ethical leader in Oakland.
