Sometimes, the best laid plans...I hadn't intended to do what I did this evening, but my friend Robyn called. Upon hearing that Bailey, her beloved Springer Spaniel, was diagnosed with cancer, going to a gallery seemed so much less important. Bailey was given a fairly short time to live. With tumors on his heart and pancreas, and bleeding internally, we didn't know if he had hours or days or longer.
I arrived at the house to find our friend Chris who had taken the first shift. This was exactly sitting Shiva, since Bailey was still with us, but the gist was about the same - hang with the family. Shiva lasts for seven days, during which time family members gather in the home of the deceased and receive visitors.
So after Chris left, I took over, until other friends arrived. We made sure that Robyn wasn't left alone. We also made certain that Bailey was feeling loved during his last days with us.
I'm going to leave off the rating system today. It's self-evident.
