I had my own little Project Runway moment today, create a meaningful gift for a friend's baby shower. I'd like to say that Tim Gunn gave me 24 hours but I actually knew about this about a month in advance. My challenge was that I had procrastinated and had 24 hours.
My friend Kirsten had given me a bag of hundreds of little hand-crocheted "granny squares" a couple of years ago. Her grandmother had lovingly and painstakingly crocheted these little gems when she was 90 years old, perhaps in hopes of another great-grandchild. Sadly, grandmother has since passed and I became the lucky recipient of this hard and lovin work. I gave myself the task of putting these squares to good use, and to quote Tim Gunn, I had to "make it work".
As long as it took Granny to make those squares, damn if it didn't take me forever to hand-sew, with yarn, each of those little guys together one-by-one. I sewed and sewed and finally, hours later I had created a tiny little "blankey", which I'm hoping will be drooled on and spit-up on and dragged around like Linus (from the Peanuts).
