Don't laugh. I'm a little like Ruth Buzzy on "Laugh In" where she gets on a bike and falls over. Well that's what I thought anyway. What I discovered was that all bikes in my past were just too big. I mean like giant sized.
Cheryl very kindly kept adjusting the seat height until I was balanced, my feet hit the ground in the right place, and I could stop and start with ease. And guess what--with a kids bike I could do it. I redeemed myself.
I started in the bike learning area. Then, after i had established myself as a proficient rider, we crossed streets and rode into the park. It was glorious.
There was only one embarassing part where I was riding in circles back in the learning area, not paying attention, and nearly hit a dude on his bike. At first he was irritated until he figured out I was just learning, and then he got curious. He started circling me, "how old are you? Didn't you learn to ride as a kid? I'm not making fun of you, but how old are you?"
I just smiled and said, "I'm learning now" and well,

as any proper lady knows, "a lady never tells her age".
