The Dinner Party

It has been some time since I've been to a dinner party. I don't mean going to a friend's house for dinner, but a real gathering of friends (more than four) where copious amounts of alcohol are consumed and friends linger over food for hours (more than 2). Last night I went to such an event. Long time friends Diana and Philip (roommates) invited 5 friends for dinner. We all brought wine or champagne and so the evening started at 7:30 with a light appetizer of vegetables and dip, and two bottles of champagne, brought by Harriet. We imbibed and then adjourned to the table, set lovelier than even Martha Stewart could do. Philip is incredibly creative and the table was set with brown and green linens with two dishes filled with green lentils, and atop those lentils were nearly matching large, green candles. The dishes and glass wear were impeccable (from Neiman Marcus).

Philip started us out with a five spice prawn and mussels atop mashed potatoes with a curry sauce. We then had micro greens with pear and blue cheese and walnuts. Our main course was a sea bass with with butternut squash, potatoes and a "I don't know what you did to this, but it's amazing" chard. Diana wowed us with a bananas flambe crepe dessert, yes, of course there was vanilla ice cream.

I felt like I was at a five-star restaurant. Did I mention the wine? Probably not because we went through four bottles I think, maybe five. Harvey brought two wines from South America, What made the evening special was that we all had a connection to Diana and Philip, but the rest of use didn't really know each other so well, but that's what made it so interesting and so fun.

Diana/Philip, if you're reading this, Thank you! Oh, and, More! More!
